Un gesto para un cambio – Nari Jibon

Este viernes pasado estuve de nuevo en Nari Jibon, continuando con la conversación que iniciara en febrero sobre bloguear y las motivaciones que tenemos para hacerlo. Nari Jibon es un proyecto que busca brindar capacitación alternativa a las mujeres inscritas en él. Y bloguear, aparte de formar parte del currículo, es también la manera de darle voz a las inquietudes de estas mujeres que buscan ser dueñas de su destino y mejorarlo. En esta ocasión, siendo aficionada a la fotografía, pues la conversación versó sobre la utilización de fotos en nuestros blogs, fotoblogueo, y el uso de flickr para ello. A pesar de las limitaciones del idioma, y la timidez inicial creo que hubo comunicación.

Al inicio de la sesión cuando hablamos de bloguear, entre las definiciones que establecieron las asistentes estaban que bloguear es el espejo de la mente y que nos sirve para ejercitar la escritura, que las fotos son para registrar la historia o para expresar cosas que pensamos o sentimos a través de la imagen. Luego entramos en detalles menos divertidos y más «tutoriales» como la manera de establecer una cuenta de flickr, y demás etcéteras pertinentes.

Una de mis definiciones favoritas es que una foto es una memoria. Al principio y final de la sesión tomé fotos, tomé memorias y en cada rostro captado por la cámara uno puede leer una historia. Las mujeres de Nari Jibon tienen la energía vital en ellas. Son la tierra fértil, parte de la promesa de un futuro mejor para todas ellas. En sus rostros y expresiones de reflexión, expectativa e incluso tristeza no dejo de ver sino determinación por alcanzar a ser las únicas propietarias de sus vidas.

De alguna manera, la experiencia vivida el viernes se convirtió para mí en la confirmación de algo en lo que creo firmemente, que basta un gesto para un cambio. Kathryn Ward tuvo el gesto de iniciar Nari jibon. Gracias a ello se abrió una posibilidad insospechada para este grupo de mujeres, la de cambiar sus propias historias.

A gesture to make a change – Nari Jibon

This last Friday I was again in Nari Jibon, continuing with the conversation initiated last February about blogging and the motivations that we have to do it. Nari Jibon is a project that aims to provide alternative skills to women in Bangladesh. And blogging besides of being part of the curriculum it is also a way to give a voice to the unrest of these women that are looking to be the owners of their destiny and improve it. In this occasion, because of my liking of photography, the conversation was about the usage of photos in our blogs, photoblogging and the use of flickr for it. Despite the limitations of the language, and the initial shyness I believe we communicated.

At the beginning of the session when we talked about blogging, among the definitions established by the participants were that blogging is the mirror of the mind and that allow us to excersize writing, that the photos are for registering history or to express things that we think and feel through images. Afterwards, we entered in details less fun and more «tutorialish» as the way to establish a flickr account, and further pertinent etceteras about it.

One of my favorite definitions is that a photo is a memory. At the beginning and the end of the session I took pictures, I took memories and in each of the faces captured by the camera one can read a story. The women of Nari Jibon have the vital energy in them. They are the fertile soil, part of the promise of a better future for all of them. In their faces and expressions of reflection, expectation or even sadness I don’t see anything else but determination of achieving to be the sole owners of their lives.

In a way, what I experienced last Friday became the confirmation of something in which I believe firmly, that is enough one gesture to make a change. Kathryn Ward had the gesture to initiate Nari Jibon. Thanks to that, an unsuspected possibility for this group of women got opened, the one to change their own stories.

Hiperenlaces y encuentros

Kathy resaltó el poder del hiperenlace en su blog a raíz del encuentro del viernes. Gracias a dichos enlaces entre blogs y redes sociales es que Shawn, Shaina y yo estuvimos presentes en Nari Jibon el pasado viernes. Al final de mi intervención, llegó Shawn, del blog The Uncultured Project. Shawn ha dado talleres de videoblog en Nari Jibon y se encuentra en Bangladesh contribuyendo a hacer de este mundo un lugar mejor. Shaina es bangladeshi de origen y estudiante de sociología en Florida, que motivada por lo que leyó en el post How to get involved del blog de Shawn contactó a Kathy y se vino de voluntaria a Nari Jibon desde Estados Unidos a enseñar inglés por un par de meses. A mí me conectó David Sasaki con Kathy, a quien «conocí» través de Luis Carlos de Periodismos de Paz y Global Voices Online. Y así seguro vendrán otros más.
